1.  Who is Napa Valley Nanny?

The Napa Valley Nanny is Maggie Johnson. This is not an agency that sources out nannies. I fulfill temporary childcare requests - especially for visitors looking for reliable vacation and hotel childcare. 

When parents ask me to fulfill a childcare request, my priority is to provide a safe, caring environment for your child where we can enjoy fun activities during your time away.

3.  What areas do you serve and what hours are you available?

Areas: Napa, American Canyon, Yountville, Rutherford, St. Helena, Calistoga, & East Sonoma.  


Available start times: (sorry, no early mornings, but I can stay as late as you need me)

4.  What is your experience as a professional nanny?

From 1996-2006 I worked with three wonderful families in Piedmont, Alamo and Pleasanton, CA - here in the Bay Area. These were permanent positions that lasted two years to nearly 5 years. In addition, I worked for other families who needed me for temporary weekend help.  

In 2007, my husband and I moved to Napa, where I helped to open and run his new restaurant.

On June 1st 2010, I opened "Napa Valley Nanny"!  As of February 1st 2012,  I have fulfilled over 140 childcare requests, partly from the repeat hotel referrals from local hotel Concierge and personnel. 



5.) What kind of referrals or documentation can you provide if requested?

  1. Two letters from past childcare employers
  2. Trustline Clearance
  3. Current CPR and First Aid
  4. Business License and Bond
  5. Possible E-mail contact with a recent client 



6.  We'll be staying in a hotel, how will you spend time with my child?

Depending on the weather and location of hotel, we can definitely enjoy some outdoor walking/exploring/playing.  While inside, I have a wide range of fun, clean and safe toys, games and art projects, that will keep us busy for hours - no matter the age - we should have a great time!  (See my "Nanny Gallery" for examples)

Going to the pool depends on the children's age and other considerations.  Older school age children preferred for this. Safety comes first.

Each job ends with a detailed nanny log that informs you of how we spent our time together.  For babies, this includes feeding and diaper change times.




7.  My child came down with a contagious illness, will you still come?

If your child is very ill, (few sniffles or cough doesn't necessarily qualify) please give me a call, and we'll discuss it. If a cancellation of the job is mutually decided,  you will receive a 50% refund.



8.  How do you differ from traditional Nanny Agencies?

Nanny agencies can be a great source for finding reliable help, however there are two main points that differentiate my company:

  • I don't charge non-refundable booking/registration fees
  • Not all agencies allow contact with the nanny ahead of time, so you may only know their name and limited information.  In addition to all the information provided on my website, you can call me directly, and as a result feel more comfortable with your choice
  • More flexibility, because you are dealing directly with the nanny - there is no intermediary.



9.  What is Trustline?

Trustline is an agency that uses the most up-to-date databases at the California Department of Justice and the FBI, so fingerprinting is included. It is far superior to a simple, inexpensive local background check.  Once registered, any offense is automatically reported, and Trustline is informed. According to California law, every nanny working for an Agency must be Trustlined.
